Our Longhorn stock bull, GORSE QUOTA BROKER, has been sold and we are delighted that he goes to one of the largest Longhorn herds in the country where he will have the opportunity to leave his mark on the breed. We have also sold CWRT HENLLYS KATO having kept a half-brother by GORSE QUANTUM with a QUOTA BROKER half brother just born.
We are planning to take both Longhorns and Wiltshire Horns to Shropshire Show and the Three Counties and starting off with Wiltshires at Kenilworth Show.

Suffolk and Oxford lambing now completed and a small lull before the Wiltshires start next month. Ten Longhorn calves so far including the first calves by Cwrt Henllys Kato which are looking good. Three yearling bulls, including a half-brother of Kato, have wintered well and look promising. Time to move our senior stock bull on and he will go to the Breed Sale Worcester on 21st April (see STOCK FOR SALE page) Have taken advantage of the good store cattle trade and have sold the remaining Shorthorn and crossbred cattle so we are now 100% pedigree registered Longhorns on the cattle side

Autumn sheep sales now satisfactorily completed and the rams in with the ewes. Calves weaned and all the cattle settled into their winter quarters and on winter rations.

September was a busy month. Two Wiltshire Horn rams went to the flock in Aberdeenshire based on ewes bought from here a few years ago. They are getting a lot of interest in this major livestock area where the breed was relatively unknown. Chiefly for the shedding ability as there is an continuing worry over the future availability of shearers. A major sale to the other end of the country saw 65 ewes heading to Cornwall, where again the wool peeling was a major factor.
The Longhorn Cattle Society Autumn sale at Worcester included a major dispersal sale. With a total of 90 cattle forward there was a sufficient entry to draw the buyers and we were delighted to top the sale with a young cow, GORSE OLIVE with her strong heifer calf, GORSE SHARON, at foot at 1,700 gns.
Unlike other parts of the country we have had a very dry summer but the stock have all done well, with an earlier start to supplementary feeding than we would have chosen, with the lack of grass. At least we have got adequate hay, silage and straw, all got dry and consequently excellent quality.

After a successful show season, we are now turning our attention to sales and next years breeding season. Considerable interest again in the Wiltshire Horns including a large order for ewes to start a new flock in the South West. Two separate buyers have taken 6 ram lambs each for commercial use as well as several rams and ram lambs for use in pedigree flocks. A noticeable upturn in interest in Oxford Downs as well as Commercial Suffolk rams.
